Now that your baby is eating family foods, it’s time to get creative with herbs, spices, and a wider variety of ingredients.
Why Flavour Matters
Exposing your baby to new tastes early encourages adventurous eating and reduces fussiness later in childhood.
Ideas to Try:
-
Herbs: parsley, dill, basil, coriander
-
Mild spices: cinnamon, paprika, turmeric, cumin
-
Different cuisines: Mediterranean, Indian, Mexican (adapted for baby)
Recipe: Butternut Squash & Chickpea Stew
-
1 cup butternut squash, diced
-
½ cup chickpeas (tinned, drained)
-
½ courgette, chopped
-
½ tsp mild paprika
-
200ml water or stock
Method:
-
Add squash, courgette, chickpeas, and water/stock to a pan.
-
Sprinkle in paprika.
-
Simmer until the veg are soft.
-
Blend or mash depending on your baby’s stage.
Final Thoughts
Weaning is a journey, not a race. Every baby is different, and some will move through these stages faster or slower than others – and that’s okay. The important thing is to keep mealtimes relaxed, fun, and full of variety.
👉 And don’t forget – it’s going to get messy! That’s exactly why I designed our Bibbilyboo feeding bibs: to make this stage easier for you, and more fun for your little one.
